Eligibility Requirements – Your Path to Excellence
👉 There is no formal prerequisite to sit the FRM exam. You need a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant full-time professional risk management work experience to receive the FRM certification. Students preparing through FRM coaching in Pune usually start Part 1 while still completing their degree, so the work experience clock isn’t the only thing standing between them and certification.

Frequently Asked Questions
You don’t. That’s actually one of the biggest myths students carry around. Most decent institutes, Unique Global Education included, run live online batches now, so a student in Pune sits in the exact same class as someone in Mumbai, same faculty, same material, same doubt sessions. Unless you really want to sit in a physical classroom, online is honestly the better deal because you’re not wasting two hours a day just commuting.
Depends on the institute, but expect somewhere between 60k to 90k for coaching, and that’s before GARP’s own exam fee which you pay separately. Some places let you split it into installments, others want it upfront, so just ask before you commit rather than assuming.
Nope. Genuinely doesn’t matter. I’ve seen engineers, arts grads, commerce students, all sitting in the same batch. FRM starts from scratch anyway. If you’re really shaky on finance basics, a bridge course before jumping into the main classes helps a ton, takes the panic out of the first few weeks.
Most people land somewhere around 12 to 18 months for both parts, assuming they’re also working or studying something else on the side. Don’t try to compress it. FRM punishes rushed prep, the syllabus is too dense for that.
Some people pull it off, sure. But between quant, risk models, and everything else GARP throws at you, most students end up spending way more time figuring things out alone than they would in a structured class. If you’re in Pune working a full-time job, time is probably your scarcest resource, and that’s exactly what good classes save you.
Chapter tests, mocks, a proper revision round closer to the exam, and someone you can actually go to with doubts instead of just Googling at midnight. Some institutes throw in placement help or soft skills training too, useful if you’re using FRM as a career pivot and not just decoration on your resume.
Yeah, most FRM students are working professionals honestly, not full-time students. Evening and weekend batches exist for exactly this reason. The real challenge isn’t finding time on weekends, it’s staying consistent on weekdays too, even if it’s just an hour.
It’s recognized globally, GARP isn’t some small name, and banks, NBFCs, and risk consulting firms do specifically look for FRM charterholders. It won’t hand you a job on its own, nothing does, but it gets your resume looked at twice instead of skipped.
GARP technically lets almost anyone sit the exam, you just need two years of relevant work experience eventually to get the actual certification. Most coaching institutes take students right after 12th or during graduation though, especially through a bridge course, so they’re not starting cold.
Look past the brochure. Ask who’s teaching, whether they’ve actually worked in risk management or just teach it academically, how many mock tests you get, and how fast doubts get cleared. A free demo class tells you more in twenty minutes than any website copy will.
