Every few weeks, someone asks me which bank or coaching institute offers a CFA Scholarship in India. The truth is that CFA Institute does not currently offer a separate scholarship only for Indian candidates.
Students in India apply for the same official CFA Institute scholarships available to eligible candidates globally. If anyone claims they can “arrange” a special India-only scholarship for you or asks for money to secure one, it is best to avoid it.

What Is a CFA Scholarship in India?
The official page currently lists three scholarships: Access, Student and Professor. Plenty of older blogs still mention a Women’s Scholarship or a Regulator Scholarship. Neither is on the current list, so don’t build your exam budget around them. Check the official page before trusting any blog, mine included.
The Access Scholarship is meant for people who would find the full program fees hard to manage. The Student Scholarship goes to students at universities that are part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. The Professor Scholarship is for full-time faculty who teach a minimum number of credit hours. Most of you reading this will care about the first two.
What you actually save after geeting the CFA Scholarship in India
For scholarships awarded from 4 March 2026, the Access Scholarship takes the exam registration fee down to USD 400 under the Premium Registration Package, and that package includes the Practice Pack. The Student Scholarship brings it to USD 600 under the same package. Tax gets added on top of both.
Awards made before 4 March 2026 don’t include the free Practice Pack, and the Institute says there are no exceptions. So if a senior tells you their scholarship came with it, they were probably awarded in a different period.
You still have to be eligible for the exam
Getting a scholarship doesn’t mean you can skip the eligibility requirements. For the Access Scholarship you need to meet the CFA Program’s normal registration requirements, which is the same graduation or 23-month window we covered earlier.
A second year B.Com student who falls inside that window can apply. Someone who is too early can’t apply and hope for a favour.

The Access CFA Scholarship in India, step by step
There are four application windows a year, each tied to an exam window. As of October 2026, the February 2027 and May 2027 windows are already closed. The next one is for the August 2027 exams, covering Levels I, II and III.
It opens on 3 November 2026 and closes on 23 November 2026, with decisions due on 18 December 2026. After that comes the November 2027 window for Levels I and II, which runs from 9 February 2027 to 2 March 2027, with decisions on 26 March 2027.
You apply through the CFA Institute’s application portal, and the form can’t be completed on a phone, so keep a laptop handy. A confirmation email arrives once you submit. If it doesn’t, contact CFA Institute support. Decisions are emailed about four weeks after the window closes.
Financial need carries a lot of weight, CFA Institute does the review, and every decision is final. One thing student often overlook is that an Access Scholarship works for a single exam cycle only, the one whose window you applied in. If you apply in May, you can’t use the scholarship for the August exam.
The Student Scholarship follows a different process, with applications open from 1 September to 15 July the following year. Universities review applications and award scholarships throughout the year, rather than following specific exam cycles. So, start by checking whether your college is in the University Affiliation Program.
The list is on the CFA Institute website, and if your college isn’t on it, this route is closed. If it is, talk to your finance faculty or the program coordinator. Some universities ask for extra documents, so read their requirements before you submit. The award is valid for one of four exam cycles from the date it’s given, depending on your level, and your award email spells out the details.
After that email, give it 5 to 8 business days before the discounted fee appears at registration. If you don’t get the scholarship, you can still register at the early price, but only for cycles where the early deadline has passed and registration is still open.
Rules that quietly cost people their scholarship
Don’t register before your decision comes. If you pay the higher fee first, the difference isn’t refunded. You also can’t apply while you’re registered for an exam or waiting on a result. Only one application can be open at a time, and one scholarship is allowed per exam registration.
Then there’s the use it or lose it rule. If you win a scholarship and then don’t register, don’t schedule, or don’t sit the exam, you become ineligible for future scholarships. The same happens if you received scholarships twice after 1 September 2024 and didn’t pass after your second attempt at the same level.
Scholarship candidates also can’t buy a paid deferral. An emergency deferral is possible only if you meet the stated criteria.Be honest in your application, too. Knowingly giving false or misleading information counts as a violation of the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
That can mean an investigation, suspension from the program and a ban from future scholarships. Inflating your financial situation isn’t worth that risk.
Tips for Your CFA Scholarship Application in India
Treat the Access application like an interview. Describe your situation plainly and make sure it matches whatever documents you attach. I’ve seen students write long, dramatic essays that didn’t line up with their paperwork, and it never helped them. Don’t make the scholarship your only plan either.
If you miss the window or don’t get selected, know what you’ll do next, whether that’s the early registration price or waiting for the next cycle. Also remember that the exam fee is just one part of the cost. You’ll still need study time, a valid passport for exam day, and the Practical Skills Module at every level. A cheaper registration doesn’t remove any of that.
FAQs
No, and I wish people would stop selling this idea. CFA Institute runs its scholarships globally, so an Indian candidate uses the same portal as someone in Brazil or Canada. If an agent or coaching centre claims they can arrange an India specific scholarship, don’t pay them.
For awards from 4 March 2026, the Access Scholarship reduces the registration fee to USD 400 and the Student Scholarship to USD 600. Both come with the Premium Registration Package, so the Practice Pack is included. Tax is extra, so your final bill will be a bit higher.
The one to watch is for the August 2027 exams. It opens on 3 November 2026 and closes on 23 November 2026, with the decision due on 18 December 2026. That’s roughly three weeks, so get your documents ready before it opens. Dates can change, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
No. If you’re registered, or still waiting for a result, your application will be rejected. Wait for your result, then apply for the next cycle. Also don’t pay for registration before the scholarship decision arrives, because the higher fee you paid won’t be refunded.
You lose it, and you lose your chance at future scholarships as well. Most students never read that part. Apply only when you’re ready to register, schedule and sit the exam, not simply because the discount looks good.
